Editorial: Lily Collins by Max Abadian for Elle Canada

Image
via  fashion gone rogue There's something about Lily Collins that's just never appealed to me. She's a stunning woman, and she seems like a genuinely nice person, but she also strikes me as very... boring. She's almost bland in her beauty. There's just something about her that I can't shake. Gorgeous as she is, I can never invest anything in her as a personality because she seems so flavourless and unmemorable. I can only think of  one movie  she was in off the top of my head, which is odd since she's supposedly pretty famous. But these photos? These photos are spectacular. I remember her now. Her doe-eyed shtick no longer turns me off. Instead, I'm intrigued by the contrast between her big bedroom eyes and the fairly "good girl" styling. She looks less like someone who is constantly in deference to the people around her and more like the independent and successful young woman she is.  It's amazing the story you can tell with the right styl...

Cover Wars: Jessie J by David Roemer for Marie Claire UK

Image
via fashion gone rogue Jessie J has been out of the limelight for a while, but I'm glad to see her back. She recently shaved her head in support of a friend with cancer, and it's growing back in beautifully. Very Anne Hathaway. Girl is giving so much face, and this is one of the first times I haven't hated how that dress has been photographed. I'm obviously going to have to track down a copy of this issue.

Photo of the Day: Minnie Mouse

via fashion gone rogue A simple little shot, and yet elegant all round.

Photo of the Day: Christina Hendricks for Flare Magazine

Campaign: Sheila Marquez and Christopher Abbot of "GIRLS" for Free People by Guy Aroch

Image
via fashion gone rogue Sheila Marquez and Christopher Abbot by Guy Aroch Just yesterday I was telling a friend that I was thinking of delving back into photojournalism, because although I love fashion and fashion photography, there isn't that much opportunity for linear storytelling. Fashion simply is , and there is very little you can do to make it about any one thing in particular unless you are taking a dedicated approach to creating a specific story.  So what I love about the shots in this campaign is that they manage to do just that. The entire thing centres on the story of these two people in love, and how they interact with the fashion is simply an organic extension of that. It's a very refreshing take on a very old and played formula, and I could get used to it.  Continue Reading My Brilliance! >>>

Editorial: Naomi Campbell by Thomas Whiteside for Elle US February 2013

Image
via fashion gone rogue Naoimi Campbell by Thomas Whiteside My last few posts have been so heavy, so I decided to get back to some fashion for a bit. Introducing, the original diva, Naomi Campbell. Looking gorgeous as ever, she rocks this Elle editorial in the way only she can. It's hard to believe she's been doing this as long as she has and still looks this good. But I guess when looking fabulous is your job...! Anyway, soak it all in. There's tons of fabooh to soak up from watching Naomi. Continue Reading My Brilliance! >>>

In With the New: Starting 2013 with a Fresh Face and a New Attitude

Image
Karlie Kloss by Patrick Demarchelier via fashion gone rogue I wanted to start this piece by writing something super profound about new beginnings for the new year and whatnot, but I'm not feeling very profound today. I'm actually feeling very ill and mildly feverish, and I can't breathe because I've had the flu for over a week. But  YOU KNOW...  these things happen.  But on a serious note, I love new years. I love the symbolism of new beginnings, and new opportunities. 2012 was a difficult but  ultimately rewarding year  for me. I learned a lot about myself and what I'm capable of, and I can't wait to implement those lessons in 2013. I have a lot that I want to accomplish this year. I'll be turning 23, crossing the one year mark post graduation, and continuing to make strides at my first "real" job, and doing more freelance and multimedia work. There are a lot of amazing things in store for me this year. I can feel it in my bones. And I'm ver...

Editorial: Elle Fanning by Pierre Debusschere for Bullett Magazine

Image
via tomandlorenzo Elle Fanning by Pierre Debusschere Another little fashion darling. I'm loving this spread a ridiculous amount. I have to admit that I'm partial to Dakota, but Elle is giving her sister a run for her money in the fashion department. I can't wait to see more from her. Continue Reading My Brilliance! >>>

Editorial: Ashtyn Franklin by Chris Nicholls for Flare Magazine

Image
via fashion gone rogue Ashtyn Franklin by Chris Nicholls Here's something edgy and fun to spice up a boring holiday. Chris Nicholls does a fantastic job bringing these photos to life, and I'm loving the motifs he's worked with. What say you? Continue Reading My Brilliance! >>>

Portrait: Emily Van Raay by Jeff Tse

Image
via fashion gone rogue Emily Van Raay by Jeff Tse Haven't posted in ages, so I figured it would be best to ease back into the swing of things with a short fashion photography post. I love a good beauty shot. It's a great way to roll a lot of different genres into one: beauty/fashion/portraits, and great chance to work with some amazing model talent.  I love these shots. There's a freshness and a flow to them that I wish I could achieve with my photography. These kinds of shots should be more about  highlighting a natural kind of awe about the face, and I think these do that very well. Continue Reading My Brilliance! >>>

Editorial: Kendall Jenner for Miss Vogue

Image
via  Miss Vogue The internet spent a good portion of last weekend buzzing about these new shots of Kendall Jenner for Miss Vogue, and with good reason! These shots are amazing, and Kendall looks completely at home styled to the nines and posing like a total pro. Girl can give FACE! Say what you like about the Kardashian clan, but they are a genetically blessed bunch. Kendall gets the best of Kris and Bruce with that that gorgeous face and that leggy physique. She hits all the model checkpoints and I honestly think that she could have had an amazing high fashion career without the Kardashian name. Kendall is gorgeous, and I hope she pursues her modelling career. Can't wait to see more from her. Continue Reading My Brilliance! >>>

Editorial: Yuvia by Jesse Laitinen for Fashion Gone Rogue

Image
via fashion gone rogue Yuvia by Jesse Laitinen Here's something to stun you. I have to work today (Is is weird that I'm excited? It's probably a little sad that I have nothing better to do than go to work....)  and things will likely be hectic all week, so I probably won't post much before the end of the month. In the meantime, do enjoy these gorgeous portraits of model Yuvia. I really love that they made her hair the accessory, and kept things simple otherwise. They're beautiful shots. Continue Reading My Brilliance! >>>

Cover Wars: Crystal Renn by Gregory Harris for 10 Magazine

Editorial: Emma Xie & Claire Collins by Alexander Neumann in Haute Couture for L’Officiel Paris October 2012

Image
via fashion gone rogue Emma Xie and Claire Collins by Alexander Neumann I haven't posted editorials in quite some time, so I figured I'd get back to that today. I absolutely love this editorial in October's LÓfficiel Paris. It's strong, colourful and very dramatic. Basically everything I love. What's especially gorgeous about this shoot is the way there are multiple fashion photography tropes going at once. You've got the broken down doll, the dark and dangerous, the aloof and fabulous and the "am I just this fabulous". It amuses me that like everything else, there are still easily identifiable recurring themes in fashion photography. It makes the game a little easier to play and understand. Enjoy the pretty! Editorial: Nadja Giramata by Andoni & Arantxa for Style Switzerland May 2012

Image
via fashion gone rogue Nadja Giramata by Andoni & Arantxa I wish there were more visible black faces in fashion. Race will always been an issue until seeing models of colour is no longer something different/new/exciting. It should become as ubiquitous as seeing Caucasian models on the cover of a magazine. We need to stop this separate but equal mentality. Continue Reading My Brilliance! >>>

Editorial: Abbey Lee Kershaw by Greg Kadel for Numéro #133

Photo of the Day: IndePAINTdance

Image
via fashion gone rogue Brittany Hollis by Jeff Tse I'd love to do some more work with a makeup artist. When it comes to fashion portraiture, the makeup is almost as important as the photograph if not more important logistically. MUA's do all the heavy lifting so that photographers's jobs get a little bit easier I think.
