365 Photo Challenge: Day #45

Image
via PLola Photo#45: Rhett's Challenge I have never seen anything so gross in my life. So much food.  The pictures from this event were epic in the worst way.  This guy came second. A girl won. (Yay girls!)

Cover Wars: Nicki Minaj by Howard Huang for Paper Magazine

Image
via Paper Mag Nicki Minaj by Howard Huang Personally, I wish Nicki would do more looks like this. She's deep into her "costume" phase right now, and that's fine, but I think she's forgotten (and consequently so has everyone else) how GORGEOUS she looks when she goes glam. She has all the makings of a style icon in the traditional sense, but she seems to prefer the Gaga route. That's perfectly okay of course, but I'd love to see her do more easy beauty shoots like this one. She's a beautiful woman.

Editorial: Hailey Clauson by Paola Kudacki for Harper’s Bazaar US March 2012

Image
via fashion gone rogue Hailey Clauson by Paola Kudacki What do I love about this shoot? I love the bright colours and the vibrant tone. This editorial is very young, but not in a condescending way, and I think that's successful and important to note, because I don't think that fashion is very good at avoiding condescension.  Continue Reading My Brilliance! >>>

Underground Magazine & College Gloss Internship

Image
via PLola Underground Magazine [Volume.1/ Issue. 1] TA DA! I've finally, FINALLY gotten around to embedding my magazine to this blog. Last semester, I worked on a semester long project to create, brand, write and design a magazine from the ground up. With a team of four other girls, we slaved for hours in the lab putting together our vision of the magazine that we wanted to see.  I'm so incredibly proud of this and I'm so glad to be able to share it with my readers. In the tabs above, you'll find the link to a full digital copy of the magazine. Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to lay it out in spreads so you'll have to read it page by page, but c'est la vie! I'm just proud to be able to showcase it all. If this picture looks familiar, it's because it's the Emerson Elephant ! How awesome is it that my photograph made the cover?! If none of my dreams come true and I never make another magazine cover in my life, at least I'll have this o

365 Photo Challenge: Day #41

Image
via PLola Photo #41: Chinatown For one my classes I have to create a multimedia snapshot of Boston's Chinatown district. It was fun to shoot there, but the attitudes of the locals ranged from vaguely racist to super nice. It was a frustrating endeavor to say the least.

Friend Friday: Tools of the Trade

Image
Welcome back to Fashion/Beauty Friend Friday ! This month, we're talking about the tools we use as bloggers. So much of what we do is wrapped up in our ability to get it done . Technology obviously plays a major role in the way our blogs grow, expand and reach new audiences, but how exactly does that happen, and what exactly are those tools? Photo via Wikimedia Commons 1. What are the tools you use to blog? What don't I use to help me blog these days? Let's make a list: Macbook: my home base Canon 60D: my single most prized possesion. it's practically my child.  External Hard Drive: Considering how old this laptop is, I'd be lost without my hard drive. Blogger: blogger gets a bad rep, but I've never had any problems, and I doubt I'll ever switch my CMS. Apple Aperture: as a photographer, Aperture is an amazing tool that lets you edit AND organize your photos. can't even begin to tell you how much easier my life got once I figure out how to use it to

Cover Wars: Kati Nescher by Daniel Jackson for Dazed & Confused March 2012

Image
via fashion gone rogue Kati Nescher by Daniel Jackson  This is my favourite of all the Dazed covers this month. I like the deep set eyes and strong cheeks. That combined with the white powdered face gives a really strong and dramatic  effect, and the red lip is just the icing on the cake. I'd definitely stop and pick this up off the newsstand.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #34

Image
via PLola Day: #34: Veteran This woman is awesome. I don't have the program on me now, so I can't give you her name, but I'll add it in when I get back home. You have to see this woman dance. It's this amazing mix of ethinc dance and hip-hop. EPIC. she was one of the judges of the freestyle competition.

Editorial: Adele Atkins by Mert & Marcus for Vogue US March 2012

Image
via Vogue.com Adele by Mert & Marcus Va-voom! Adele is perfection in my eyes, and after her amazing sweep of the Grammys last night, and her rousing performance after months of recovery from throat surgery, everyone knows why. Now, her star will only continue to rise in 2012. This editorial shot by my personal favourite photographers M&M, is glorious, and really plays up her old school glam. I'm in love with it, and I can't wait to see her in even more shoots. Continue Reading My Brilliance! >>>

365 Photo Challenge: Day #30

Image
Oh hai! It's Day 30! Now you get 6 pictures. Just because I'm proud to have made it a whole month, without copping out. This is also the first time I've shot sports with any measure of success, (and it was my first hockey game) so I'm particularly proud. Photo(s) #30: Women's Beanpot Championship via  PLola . [Edit: I got an A- for this set. YES!] Boston, MA. Feb 7, 2012- Northeastern University junior forward, Casey Pickett (14, left) scores the game-winning goal against Boston University sophomore goalie Kerrin Sperry (1), bringing the final score to 4-3, during the 2012 Women's Beanpot Championship at the Walter Brown Arena in Boston, Mass. on Tuesday February 7, 2012. "It's an unreal feeling. Everyone wants to be that kid who scores the winning goal, but to actually be that person... it's impossible to describe the feeling."  Boston, MA. 365 Photo Challenge: Day #27

via PLola Photo #27: Pats Fan I almost forgot about this lovely lady. That's football for you. I wonder what she thought about Madonna's performance?

365 Photo Challenge: Day #26

Image
via PLola Photo #26: Studded Hearts So many pieces!  *salivates* I haven't been able to find really exciting studs in a while. That's probably why I default to my silver hoops so often. I see studs as place holders for more exciting jewellery, but why can't they be exciting on their own?

365 Photo Challenge: Day #25

Image
via PLola Photo #25: Trinkets I haven't bought a new piece of jewellery in months. Not a tragedy obviously, but I love bangles and add-ons. Unlike clothing, accessories don't discriminate by size.

Cover Wars: Victoria Beckham by Josh Olins for i-D Magazine

Image
via i-D Online Victoria Beckham by Josh Olins Perfection. Posh to me is the ultimate IT girl, and she can do no wrong. I loved her back when I was 9, and I idolized the Spice Girls, and I love her now that I'm 21 and she's become the ultimate style symbol. I think she's probably fashion's most visible success story, and I'm excited to keep following her journey in the industry.

Cover Wars: Lana Del Rey by Mario Testino for Vogue UK

Image
via fashion gone rogue Lana Del Rey by Mario Testino After watching her perform on SNL, and forcing myself to sit and listen to her album, I still have no idea what Lana Del Rey is about. But I will say this: aside from her obviously enhanced lips, she's stunning, and I think she should give up music and just model full time. Her music and "image" don't really do anything for me, but she's beautiful, and I think she has a look that's almost literally tailor-made for high fashion. I think I read somewhere that she's actually signed to an agency. If she doesn't make it in music, I think she could have a very lucrative career in fashion.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #24

Image
via PLola Photo #24: Arm Party I was actually doing this LONG before Leandra, but I didn't have a name for it, and I guess in reality, it doesn't count if all my bangles kept getting confiscated since I wasn't allowed to wear them in school...

365 Photo Challenge: Day #23

Image
via PLola Photo #23: Super Bowl Sunday "I f*cking hate the Giants, and I'm not even from America!" I kid thee not. Sports makes people do really stupid things.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #22

Image
via PLola Photo #22: Beaded When I was younger I was obsesses with putting cowrie shells in my hair. I'm glad I got out of that phase. They look much better in jewellery.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #21

Image
via PLola Photo #21: On Display I like accessories shots. I especially like when I almost get them right. I really need to get some new lenses. The 35mm that's on my wish list right now would have been perfect for this.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #20

via PLola Photo #20: Munchkin THIS girl! so cute. Little Munchkin indeed, and she had so much energy, just running around with those little shades on like a boss. Awesome kid is awesome.
