Twitter for the Fashion Inclined: 5 Accounts You Have to Follow

Image
Every fashion blogger worth their salt knows how important social media is, and how it helps them stay connected not just to their readers, but also to other bloggers who share the same digital space. Even though the medium is close to bursting, there are always those personalities who shine through, and manage to make their mark. Each platform is different of course, and twitter is unique because of it's micro-blogging format, but it still has its stars. Here in no particular order, are the five twitter accounts that every fashion blogger should be following: 1.  Tom + Lorenzo: Sit, bitter kittens, and listen to the wisdom that TLo has to bestow upon you. I first discovered this amazing blogger power couple during a live blog session of an episode of last season's Project Runway. I have to say, they are intense, and they are almost always right. Although, they blog about a lot of television, there is MORE than enough fashion interspersed between recaps of Downton Abbey and Re

Cover Wars: February Cover Girls

Image
Because I've been slacking off, there are a tons of great covers backed up that I meant to post, so I'll just post them all. These are my favorites for February. Fairly simple, somewhat minimalist. Always fabulous.   via PLola Photo #17: Mother and Son They were watching a guy make Spiderman out of balloons. It was awesome. This kid was SO excited. You just can't help but laugh at kids when you see how excited they are about life.

via fashion gone rogue Alícia Kuczman by Manuel Nogueira  This probably won't make any sense, but what I like about this is how clean it is. It's just so PRISTINE.  Clean strong lines and bold colours. Exactly the way an editorial should be. Continue Reading My Brilliance! >>>

Friend Friday: Trend Woes/Wars

Image
I haven't participated in FBFF in months, and I'm happy to get back on the train for the new year. Friend Friday is not going to be monthly instead of weekly, and for January, with Fashion Week around the corner, we're talking about reacting to new trends. Onto the fun times! It's pretty, and I actually really like it, but I could never go out in public in this getup.  1. With Fashion Week around the corner we're all beginning to focus on the upcoming trends for fall. But what are you coveting right now? Honestly, not much. Although I love shopping, I've never been one to follow trends religiously. I tend to get new pieces if I happen to be in the vicinity of something cute and affordable, or if I need something specific. I haven't been shopping "just because" in months. There are a few pieces I'm looking to add to my wardrobe however. Currently I have my eyes on patterned stockings of some variety, a good blazer or two, a pair of white jean

365 Photo Challenge: Day #13

Image
via PLola Photo #13: Dominique again And again. Because I can. I really have taken a very strange liking to this photo though. I'm not sure why, but it's really growing on me...

365 Photo Challenge: Day #12

Image
via PLola Photo #12: Rachel again Because I can. And I like this picture. I think I'm going to definitely use this one for my portfolio.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #11

Image
via PLola Photo #11: Sierra Sierra is awesome. She's also my cousin. Her birthday is coming up soon. She's a much more disciplined model than I expected. I love this picture. I should probably stop posting these and finish my application already.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #10

Image
via PLola Photo #10: Gabby This is Gabby. She is Rachel's sister. They are gorgeous. That is all.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #9

Image
via PLola Photo #9: Reah Another SVA portfolio shot. Hopefully by today I'll be finished editing all 5 sessions and I can post some more of the work that I did. I can't wait to be finished with this application!

365 Photo Challenge: Day #8

Image
via PLola Photo #8: Dominique Another shot from my SVA portfolio shoot. There are better ones, and i'm going to post more previews in the coming days, but I haven't had time to really sit and edit yet. Going to have a marathon edit session tomorrow evening in the lab though so when they're all done I'd probably post a complete album on facebook. Application woes!

365 Photo Challenge: Day #7

Image
via PLola Photo #7: Rachel This was taken over break as part of my portfolio for my application to SVA. As soon as I finish editing everything I can finish my application and post all of the pictures! Can't wait to get it over with.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #6

Image
via PLola Photo #6: Tattoo Portrait This photo is from a shoot I did for the BU Buzz last semester. I wasn't able to post any of the shots before because the magazine hadn't been published yet, but thankfully they'll be on sale sometime in the coming weeks. It's so exciting to see your work in print. For this issue I got an entire spread because this was a feature story. It feels so amazing to see the hard work you do pay off. Excited to start working on the next issue!

365 Photo Challenge: Day #5

Image
via PLola Photo #5: Making Strides I used this photo in my portfolio last semester and I really like it. This is Jordan Diaz. You'll probably see him hosting E! News someday. He's my designated famous friend.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #4

Image
via PLola   Photo #4: Spoken Word I love spoken word. It's this awesome intersection where music and lyrics decide to go separate ways. My friend Kemi Alabi is a poet and amazing spoken word artist and I love listening to her and understanding the craft of it. It's SO hard to find that place where poetry becomes just a little bit more, but not quite anything else. It's a delicate balance. If you're up to it, you should definitely try to catch a spoken word performance sometime soon.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #3

Image
via PLola Photo #3: Kids of Occupy This little tyke was soaking things in at the Audre Lorde to Howard Zinn Library at the Occupy Boston camp. His parents had brought him and his older sister down to try to explain to them what the movement was about and why it mattered. Awesome parents are awesome. Seriously, I think it's so important for parents to teach their kids to be aware and inquisitive and to care about the world around them. If everyone did that we could make assholes extinct in 20 years. In any case, what I remember most about Tyler is that when I asked him if he understood what was happening, he couldn't articulate what he meant. It's one of those frustrating moments of childhood where you know what you mean, but you haven't yet learned the words you need to articulate the sentiment. It was cute, but it made me feel good that at 12, he had an opinion in the first place. Like I said, awesome parents are awesome.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #2

Image
via PLola Photo #2: The 99% This is a photo of a couple who was occupying full time at Dewey Square during the height of the Occupy Movement. I interviewed them for a class assignment and there story was so moving. Being down at the occupy camp really made me aware of just how difficult life was becoming for ordinary American citizens. How can it be the land of the free when there are so many people who can't even afford to maintain the lives they've been building for 50+ years? It's made me pay attention to the politics of things, and I've been getting rather worked up about the election process this year even though I don't get a vote.... But vote aside, it's so important to be aware of the issues, and to know how they affect the people around you. There's so much inequality, and it really opens your eyes when you first experience how deep the rift between the rich and the poor really is.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #1

Image
via PLola Photo #1: My Workspace I'm starting this challenge. No excuses. I don't know how easy it'll be to keep up with, but I'm STARTING. For day one, I'm copping out and posting a photo of my workspace. This is my dorm at BU, and it's where I spend 3/4 of my time, and where all the (not quite) magic happens, whether it's writing essays, posting to my blog or trolling through facebook. It's a tiny space really, but I love it, and it's the best place I've lived in the last few years. I love this room actually, and I'll be bummed to leave it when the semester is up. But, if all goes according to plan, I'll be moving that awesome lamp of mine to NY soon. YAY!

Refocusing for 2012

Image
This year will hopefully be a year of milestones for me. If everything goes according to plan, I'll be graduating university, starting grad school, and moving to New York all before the year is up. I'm excited and hopeful, and I can't wait. Rachel Roy sketch for The Hunger Games. I promise to be this awesome in 2012. In addition to finally taking on adult responsibilities this year, I'm going to be trying to make some serious changes to this blog. I've been blogging for almost 3 years now, and in that time, I've learned so much about the fashion industry and about the blogosphere, and the relationship between the two. I've made mistakes, and I've learned from them, and for 2012, I'd like to be more active about defining this space in a way better matches up with my interests in the fashion industry. In October when I was at TVFU, I got some great advice from Teen Vogue EIC, Amy Astley. She said that in writing a blog, you should try to "create w

Starting Over

Image
via proprposture UGH! it's been ages since I've posted. there's been so much going on in the back end of things that I haven't had a chance to sit down and talk about the changes that have happened here since the new year began. basically, i decided that for the new year, I wanted change. so I changed. inkblot*photography is now Promiscuous Lola , and that's going to mean a lot of different things in the coming months. for right now, however, it means I'll be on hiatus for a while. In switching over to the new URL, there were some problems, specifically with the pictures, and before I move forward, I'm moving backwards to make sure that everything is as it should be. it doesn't make sense to me to keeping building on top of a shaky foundation. i've been having to manually tread through my posts and re-edit each one, so as you can imagine, it's taking some time. the goal is to be back up by the time I leave trinidad on the 14th, so I can start th
