The SVA MPS Fashion Photography Graduate Program (and my career dreams!)

Image
via PLola Stephanie Salloum by Cate Young Today, is an awesome day for me. Today is the day that I finally, FINALLY wrap up my application to the SVA MPS Fashion Photography Graduate Program. I've been working on the application for months now, and I'm so glad to finally be done with it, and to get an admissions decision. *cross fingers* I want to get into this program so badly, and I can only hope that the administrators at SVA will see enough potential in me to give me a chance. via  PLola Jessica Petritis by Cate Young Even though I'm currently a senior at BU, grad school was never really in my plans. When I came across SVA's program, it was like the world opened up to me. I'm in a (nationally acclaimed) journalism program, which would be great if I actually wanted to be a photojournalist, but fashion is where my heart is, and the MPS at SVA is one of the few programs in the country that focuses specifically on the art of fashion photography. If I get in, I can

Cover Wars: Lara Stone by Cuneyt Akeroglu for Vogue Turkey April 2012

Image
via fashion gone rogue Lara Stone by Cuneyt Akeroglu LOVE. I love Lara Stone, and I feel like I haven't seen much of her lately. This cover works for me on so many levels. The close up works so well. It's direct, and it draws you right in. Perfection. What do you think? Does this cover work for you?

Cover Wars: Aymeline Valade by Sofia Sanchez & Mauro Mongiello for Numéro #132 April 2012

365 Photo Challenge: Day #87

Image
via PLola Photo #87: Pondering I loved this guy. I'm not sure why he was at Union Square, but he looked so... absorbed. It was great.I also just love the way this shot came out. The colours from the flowers in the background etc. It came together really nicely and I loved it :)

365 Photo Challenge: Day #86

Image
via PLola Photo #86: Old Friends I LOVED this guy. I actually couldn't stop following him around. (You'll see more shots of him soon). Do you SEE this print? It's gorgeous! I love that as a young man, he's fashion savvy enough to recognize how beautiful it is, and not be afraid to incorporate non-bland things into his wardrobe. (And OMG that haircut. Yowza!)

365 Photo Challenge: Day #85

Image
via PLola Photo#85: Protest I have no idea what this guy's story is, and I only got this shot by chance, since he was actively running away from me (I assume like many Occupy members he didn't want his picture to turn up in a paper). But I would have loved to find out his story. I'm always drawn to the interesting faces in a crowd. But then, isn't everyone?

365 Photo Challenge: Day #84

Image
via PLola Photo#84: Punk This kid was awesome. I really like him. And his style sense was great. I'm really into the whole "see how the real people put things together" sense.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #83

Image
via PLola Photo #83: Happy Couples They were cute. I'm not a huge fan of PDA, but they looked so happy and I'm down :)

365 Photo Challenge: Day #82

Image
via PLola Photo #82: Guy Fawkes I remember when Occupy first started there was a lot of uproar over whether or not it was appropriate for the protestors to wear masks. While I'm not explicitly against it, I do think it sends the wrong message. I won't even lie, the V masks skeeve me out a bit.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #81

Image
via PLola Photo #81: Up in the Air This shot took me ages to get, and I'm still not super in love with it, but it was hard to get using a long lens in a crowd. Eh. It happens. It helped that this guy was determined to get this tricked down and literally did it over and over and over again. Slow and steady my friends....

365 Photo Challenge: Day #80

Image
via PLola Photo #80: Dimple In case you were wondering, I haven't abandoned my 365 Photo Challenge . I've been super busy, so I've fallen almost a month behind, but I'm back on track, and I'll be posting the missing photos over the course of the next week with a "backdated" tag, so that when I come back to them I'll know I fell behind. Anyway, this photo is from a set that I shot while in NYC last Friday. You'll see the rest of them in the following weeks, and in the backdated posts.  I was on my way to visit the grad school I'm applying to for next year, and found myself in Union Square, stumbling onto Occupy Wall Street 2.0 in the process. It was an interesting experience, and I even saw a small altercation with police. (One officer pulled out his camera phone to record a protestor...) There were so many interesting faces that I was like a kid in a candy store. I only meant to stop for 15 minutes and then move on, but I ended up staying for

Cover Wars: Anouck Lepere by Satoshi Saikusa for S Moda

Image
via fashion gone rogue Anouck Lepere by Satoshi Saikusa Another awesome cover. I recently went on a floor tour of the Teen Vogue offices, and a big part of each issue's cover is deciding on the colour scheme. I think the colours for this cover work really well. Nothing competes too heavily and it all complements each other. It's visually pleasing.

Cover Wars: Melissa Tammerijn by Txema Yeste for Tush #27

Image
via fashion gone rogue Melissa Tammerijn by Txema Yeste I love etheral covers like this. Commercial fashion rags are always so aggressive, so it's a nice change when covers are a little more mellowed out.
