Portrait Sessions: Stacey De Souza

Image
via Catherine Young I've been meaning to post these for a while. This is my friend Stacey. Isn't she gorgeous?  Because she's an absolute doll, she agreed to let me shoot her a few weeks ago. I really don't have a ton to say other than that she was great to work with and I love these pictures.  I think they're some of the best shots I've taken in quite some time. Do enjoy :) Continue Reading My Brilliance! >>>

Portrait Session: Tara Riley

Image
via BattyMamzelle New work for 2013! I've been looking to focus more heavily on portraiture for a while now and I think this was a decent start. Tara is an old friend of mine from primary school and she was gracious enough to let me work with her on short notice. I definitely still have some work to do, but I think I've definitely improved since the last time I dipped my toes in portraiture. We shall see what else 2013 brings! Check out the remaining shots after the jump. Continue Reading My Brilliance! >>>

365 Photo Challenge: Day #80

Image
via PLola Photo #80: Dimple In case you were wondering, I haven't abandoned my 365 Photo Challenge . I've been super busy, so I've fallen almost a month behind, but I'm back on track, and I'll be posting the missing photos over the course of the next week with a "backdated" tag, so that when I come back to them I'll know I fell behind. Anyway, this photo is from a set that I shot while in NYC last Friday. You'll see the rest of them in the following weeks, and in the backdated posts.  I was on my way to visit the grad school I'm applying to for next year, and found myself in Union Square, stumbling onto Occupy Wall Street 2.0 in the process. It was an interesting experience, and I even saw a small altercation with police. (One officer pulled out his camera phone to record a protestor...) There were so many interesting faces that I was like a kid in a candy store. I only meant to stop for 15 minutes and then move on, but I ended up staying for...

Portrait Session: Portia Ross

Image
via PLola Portia Ross by Cate Young I LOVED shooting Portia. Do you ever have those moments where you see something and you just HAVE to have it? That's what I felt like when saw Portia across a room one day after a class. She was sitting with a mutual friend of ours, and I absolutely fell in love with her style and her look. So, like the creeper I am, I looked her up on facebook, got her email address and shot her a quick email asking her to sit for me. (Privacy settings y'all! Check'em) Anyway, because she's awesome she didn't run away screaming and we met up on Friday for a quick session.  It's so refreshing as a photographer to find a subject who just knows . Not a lot of people are fully aware of their body, and it's one of the reasons why modeling is so hard. You have to be aware of every inch of yourself, and be able to manipulate it in pieces. Contrary to popular belief, it's a real skill. Needless to say, shooting with Portia was ...

365 Photo Challenge: Day #17

via PLola Photo #17: Mother and Son They were watching a guy make Spiderman out of balloons. It was awesome. This kid was SO excited. You just can't help but laugh at kids when you see how excited they are about life.

365 Photo Challenge: Day #4

Image
via PLola   Photo #4: Spoken Word I love spoken word. It's this awesome intersection where music and lyrics decide to go separate ways. My friend Kemi Alabi is a poet and amazing spoken word artist and I love listening to her and understanding the craft of it. It's SO hard to find that place where poetry becomes just a little bit more, but not quite anything else. It's a delicate balance. If you're up to it, you should definitely try to catch a spoken word performance sometime soon.
