Soundtrack Saturday: Covergirl by Rupaul Charles

I realized yesterday that I haven't done a soundtrack saturday post for the new year yet! How I managed to go two months without getting to my all time favourite feature is beyond me, but it's back bitches! And with Charisma Uniqueness Nerve and Talent, no less.

Soundtrack Saturday: Covergirl

In any case, here we go. March's first set is based on Rupaul's dance hit Covergirl from her Champion ablum. In the last 3 days I have been overdosing on drag queens, and I have to say I LOVE IT! I can't get enough of Rupaul's Drage Race. I've watched 3 seasons in three days and all I want is a wig and a compact.

That said, this song is seriously amazing. I heard it long before I started watching the show, and it's been in my itunes for a while now. It's and amazingly fun song, and it's so girls' night appropriate. Seriously, I dare you to not dance wildly while you listen. Every time I hear this song all I can do is tap my feet, jiggle my shoulders and bop my head. It's incredibly catchy and SO much fun.

That said, this set is a hot mess! It wasn't meant to evoke drag queen so much as represent some of the bolder fashion choices I'd make if I were as confident as some of the stunning queens on Drag Race. (Seriously, most of these ladies, put actual women to shame. Their bodies are SICKENING. Carmen Carrera anyone?)

There really isn't that much to say about this set except that I had tons of fun jamming to some Rupaul REALNESS while putting it together. But watching Drag Race has taught me some important lessons about femininity and accepting yourself for who you are. One of Ru's (many) taglines is "If you can't love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else?" and it's true. To some people Drag Race might be about ladyboys prancing around in makeup, but for me, it a really profound message about self acceptance. Just to listen to some of the stories of these queens makes you realize how much some people have to sacrifice to be able to truly be who they are.

But anyway, put this song on the next time you're getting ready to go out, and see how much more confident you feel strutting down your imaginary catwalk! So, put that bass in your walk. Head to toe, let your whole body talk!

I think my spirit being might be a drag queen...

So take a listen to the track above, and  if you haven't seen Rupaul's Drag Race, you need to get on it. Catch up on this season at logotv.com. I promise, it will change your LIFE!

Aaaaand what?
