something secret

I very rarely toot my own horn, but I have declared myself a BAMF today, in honour of this (not quite, but still...) momentous occasion! I kid, but seriously. It took me 3 hours, but I've finaly gotten the hang of FCPX, and if you know me, then you know that's cause for celebration. I didn't expect to, but I really enjoyed doing multimedia work when I was in college, and I had always planned to continue when I got home. But then my computer died, and I was broke, and you know how that story goes... But earlier this week, a year later, I finally  got a brand new MacBook, and I spent three days getting all the software I needed to work on my multimedia pieces. Naturally, this is Apple we're talking about so a year later, Final Cut Pro looks nothing like it did when I learnt on it, so I had to relearn the essentials. It took me hours last night, but I finally figured it out, and I AM SO PUMPED. So many ideas! As a warmup, I'm putting together a short piece from some c...

You will have to take my word for it because this front page image is terrible and you can't read the caption, but MY PICTURE MADE IT ON THE FRONT PAGE TODAY! *runs around in circles screaming in excitement* Finally. Something is going well this month. I literally spent 2 hours (LITERALLY literally, not figuratively literally) walking around Port-of-Spain covering this story, so it feels good to have my work pay off. Woohoo! It was pretty cool too. A cement truck caught an overhead wire and pulled down three electricity poles and bent another, and the three poles fell on three separate cars because MURPHY'S LAW. Ah well. At least no one was seriously injured.

via BattyMamzelle New work for 2013! I've been looking to focus more heavily on portraiture for a while now and I think this was a decent start. Tara is an old friend of mine from primary school and she was gracious enough to let me work with her on short notice. I definitely still have some work to do, but I think I've definitely improved since the last time I dipped my toes in portraiture. We shall see what else 2013 brings! via BattyMamzelle After sifting through the last set of images , I've found a few more that I don't hate. There still aren't that many of them. I think my problem is that although I have some nice moments, the shots are technically sound, and that really me. If I learned nothing else in school, it's how to produce a technically accurate photograph (actually, I think that might be all I learnt...) so it really irks me when I don't get that right. But as I was discussing with FPF, I'm really still a baby when it comes to shooting seriously, so I should forgive myself when I get things wrong. In any case, I definitely hope to be getting better over the next six months or so. I'm lucky to have more than one person who is willing to give me feedback, so I'm guessing that things will definitely improve soon. We shall see I suppose. Do enjoy! via BattyMamzelle  (That's me now, in case you forgot. I did.) It has been absolutely ages since I've shot anything substantial. Last week(ish), I shot the Noble Douglas Dance Company 's rehearsals leading up to their show. It was a great experience, and a lot of good practice. I learned a lot about shooting large groups while remaining inconspicuous and also engaging enough to get good shots. It was exhausting to say the least. via i-D Online Victoria Beckham by Josh Olins Perfection. Posh to me is the ultimate IT girl, and she can do no wrong. I loved her back when I was 9, and I idolized the Spice Girls, and I love her now that I'm 21 and she's become the ultimate style symbol. I think she's probably fashion's most visible success story, and I'm excited to keep following her journey in the industry.

via PLola Photo #6: Tattoo Portrait This photo is from a shoot I did for the BU Buzz last semester. I wasn't able to post any of the shots before because the magazine hadn't been published yet, but thankfully they'll be on sale sometime in the coming weeks. It's so exciting to see your work in print. For this issue I got an entire spread because this was a feature story. It feels so amazing to see the hard work you do pay off. Excited to start working on the next issue!

via PLola   Photo #4: Spoken Word I love spoken word. It's this awesome intersection where music and lyrics decide to go separate ways. My friend Kemi Alabi is a poet and amazing spoken word artist and I love listening to her and understanding the craft of it. It's SO hard to find that place where poetry becomes just a little bit more, but not quite anything else. It's a delicate balance. If you're up to it, you should definitely try to catch a spoken word performance sometime soon.
