FBFF: Burn After Buying OR One-Time Wear Disease

This week at FBFF, we're talking about One-Time Wear Disease. Sound scary? It's not, but it might be scaring your bank account. In the blogosphere, many style bloggers never seem to wear the same thing twice, and it's given them a bad rap. Today we're talking about our own habits with clothes, and how we get around the predictability of a static wardrobe.

1. Are you a one-time wearer?
Ha! I wish! I can't afford to be a one time wearer, and even if I could, I don't think I'd want to be. When you find that perfect piece that flatters you and complements your wardrobe, you want to work it in as many times as you can. I love finding pieces that I know are versatile and can work with what's already in my closet. As you make you new purchases, you increase the number of fashionable combinations you can come up with. Why would you want to limit yourself to a specific season's haul?

Not to mention, where would all the clothes you've worn GO exactly? Not very many of us are blessed with endless closet space (but oh! how we wish!) so eventually whatever we're not using has to go somewhere. You could always give it away (or sell it) but eventually you'll end up taking a significant loss, because you never got your money's worth out of any one item.

2. Do you feel the need to purchase something new for an evening out or a special event?
Yes, definitely. My real problem is that I don't go out nearly enough, so I don't have very many things in my closet that are appropriate for a night out. Then, when I do go out, it's such an event (since I never leave home) that people remember what I've worn. I guess when it come to dressier things I'm a one-time (or two-time) wearer. I should look into that!

On the other hand, digging up a really old piece that you haven't worn in ages is a great work-around to getting something new for a special event. If you plan far enough in advance, you can resort to buying new accessories to complement an old piece. It's cheaper than buying a new dress, but you still get to create a new and memorable look.

3. Remixing is something that a lot of bloggers are proud of being able to accomplish -Are you a remixing pro or do you shy away from posting items frequently?
Well, I'm not a OOTD blogger, but in my personal life, I definitely try to remix my wardrobe. I'm not very good, I have to admit, but I try to supplement my choices with accessories and new hairstyles. Finding new ways to style my dreadlocks has become my recent pet project. It's been almost two years and my hair is getting long and heavy. Piling it on top of my head is getting boring, but I have discovered that it changes my look dramatically. Now it's all about figuring out what looks work for me.

4. Do you have a clothing budget or are you an impulse buyer?
Definitely a budget shopper. I don't go shopping often, but when I need something specific, I definitely try to ensure that I get what I need for a reasonable price. I tend to impulse buy beauty products though. I have so much makeup that I don't use. It's becoming a bit of a problem...

5. Do you find yourself bored when reading a blog in which clothing items are often remixed and appear frequently?
I honestly don't read very many personal style blogs, so I wouldn't notice if they recycled items frequently. However, I think that for most style bloggers, finding innovative ways to remix their outfits is pretty much the point, so unless they aren't thinking far enough ahead, I don't see how it would ever become a problem.
