Soundtrack Saturday: Call Your Girlfriend
have not done a soundtrack saturday post in WAY too long, but i've been having a good week and i felt like celebrating a bit. what better way to do that than with music?
i've love robyn as a musician for a long time. her music is amazing, and it's that perfect mix of all the genres you just love. if you saw SNL last weekend, then you might have seen Robyn perform this very song. It's basically about asking the guy you love to admit to his girlfriend that he has feelings for you and leave her, but nicely. a little homewrecker-y, but it's a great song!
for this set, I really tried to emulate what little I know of Robyn's style. she's very electro-pop, and she tends to wear a lot glammed-up pedestrian items. think bedazzled denim!
i started with the bustier, jacket, and hot shorts. Robyn dances a lot on stage, and she' usually wearing some variation of this. I chose the bright salmon colour because I wanted to translate the song into more commercial fashion that I might actually wear. that is after all the purpose of this feature!
robyn is also a big fan of flatforms, but i despise the entire concept, so i went with these chic jeffery campbell "Lita" boots instead. they're beautiful, and they fit well into the glamrockpop theme.
the purple birkin is a fun addition of colour, but more of a novelty to the set. my favourite piece however is the gold stone ring. i'm a sucker for rings, and i haven't been able to go shopping for a while, so i'll be keeping my eye out for this one.
robyn has a great sense of individual style that a cross between every dominant style out right now. he music is amazing, and i love the direction her entire musical persona takes.
what about you? do you think my set is a good interpretation of the song? what did you like or not like? what would you have done differently? what kind of style do you associate with the song? let me know in the comments below!
